C. Glenn Betts, 103, of Independence, passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2018 in Independence, Missouri.

A graveside service will be held for the family at Mt. Washington Cemetery.

A celebration of life will be held on September 27, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at the Ada and Glenn Betts memorial shelter in Bundschu Park, located at 9th and South Scott Avenue, Independence, Missouri.

Glenn was born at Pleasant View Farm and Greenhouse in Independence to Richard Whittingham and Myli Ann Washburn on March 6, 1915. He attended Rock Creek, graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1933, received a B.S. in Physics from William Jewell College in 1937 and did his post-graduate work at the University of Missouri. He married Ada Maude Phillips in 1943. He was partner of Mancel Manufacturing Company in Kansas City.

Glenn was the oldest living Eagle Scout in the Heart of America Council, was a veteran of WWII and proudly served as an instructor for the Missouri Aviation Institute in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He has touched many lives in this community through involvement in civic affairs and philanthropic/benevolent church affiliations. He was a founding member of the Neighborhood Council Plan and served on the Housing Rehabilitation Board for the City of Independence. In 2006, he received the Truman Heartland Person of the Year award. Glenn delivered Meals on Wheels until the age of 95.

Glenn is preceded in death by his wife, Ada, and his 3 siblings.

Glenn is survived by his daughters, Rebecca and Glenna, 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to Ada and Glenn Betts Donor Advised Fund at the Truman Heartland Foundation.

The family of Glenn wishes to extend our sincere thanks to his caregivers: Marsha Davis, Frances Ukor, and Tracy Stamey for their compassion, love, and care.
