Lee Holmes, 85, of Independence, Mo. peacefully passed away on Friday, June 14, 2019. A graveside service for family and friends will take place at 11:30am on Saturday at Mount Comfort Cemetery, Springfield, Mo. 65803. The Rev Richard Fine of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church will officiate.
Lee was born July 19, 1933 in Jefferson City Mo. to Kermit Tuck Holmes & Lorene Yoachum. Lee grew up in the small community of Ebenezer, Mo and graduated Pleasant Hope High School in 1951. He then married the love of his life, Mary Ann Calder, soon to be Mary Ann Holmes, at age 18, she 21. They moved to Independence, a city he was proud of, to find work. Their kids, Greg, Lucinda and Jeff, soon followed, and a wonderful family life began at 2712 S. Whitney Road.
Lee’s early fascination in electronics led to a job of repairing TV’s and then owning/running Gladstone TV in the northland for many years. He retired at age 50 and commuted to University of Central Missouri from Independence every day, to take classes and eventually get his Masters’ degree in Adult Education. He also taught photography classes at the University.
His lifelong hobbies included glamour photography, ham radio operator (W0RDL), Rockabilly music (Jerry Lee Lewis), restoring antique radios, reading, old movies (Turner Classic Movies), donating time, talent and financial resources to the needy in Kansas City’s Urban Core, and cussing under his breath while working on many AMC Ramblers!
Lee has always been a big supporter of the United Methodist Church. St. Matthews, the little church that could, become a wonderful oasis of love and friendship.
Lee is survived by daughter the Rev. Dr. Lucinda Holmes (Cliff Meek) of Kansas City and son Jeff Holmes (Tanna Guthrie-Holmes) Leawood, KS and Grandson Sterling also of Leawood, KS; and Sister Jeannine Templeton (George) of Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kermit & Lorene Holmes; brother Kermit Holmes, Jr. (Barbara)of Springfield; wife Mary Ann; and son Greg Douglas of Higginsville Mo.
Our father was a great conversationalist with a vast knowledge of anything. He would be the person at a party you’d want to first invite. His hugs are the best.

I am writing to give your family comfort from the scriptures. I promise you, the scriptures say YOU WILL SEE SONNY HOMES AGAIN ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES.
God has resurrected humans in the past
John 11:39-44
39 Jesus said: “Take the stone away.” Martha, the sister of the deceased, said to him: “Lord, by now he must smell, for it has been four days.” 40 Jesus said to her: “Did I not tell you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?”t 41 So they took the stone away. Then Jesus raised his eyes heavenwardu and said: “Father, I thank you that you have heard me.42 True, I knew that you always hear me; but I spoke on account of the crowd standing around, so that they may believe that you sent me.”v 43 When he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice: “Lazʹa·rus, come out!”w 44 The man who had been dead came out with his feet and hands bound with wrappings, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them: “Free him and let him go.”

God is eager to do it again
1 Corinthians 15:26
26 And the last enemy, death, is to be brought to nothing.b

To the family and friends please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your dear love one. May you each find strength and comfort from the words of Psalms 46:1 which reads: " God is our refuge and strength. A help that is readily found in times of distress." Our loving Creator, Jehovah, is there for us if we ask for his help (1 John 5:14). He didn't intend for us to grow old and die. He thus has made the SURE promise of a Resurrection RIGHT HERE ON EARTH when it is restored to a beautiful Paradise (Psalms 37:9-11,29; Acts 24:15; Isaiah 55:11). Can you see yourself welcoming back to life your love ones? What a joy it will bring all of us. Please consider reviewing our website at:
