Obituary for Delmar Roy Seger

Delmar Roy Seger, 81 years old born in Stony Hill, Missouri in 1939 at the home of his grandparents Henry and Helena Gast. He spent his early years in Stony Hill and throughout the United States traveling with his father while he worked for the railroad. He settled with his parents in Sugar Creek, Missouri and attended Gilpin School, a one-room school house on North River Blvd. He was a 1957 William Chrisman High School graduate; the first generation in his family to complete high school. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia Paule (Martin) Seger of the home. He is survived by two children and their spouses: Suzanne (Kevin) Strathman, rural Alma, Missouri Amy (Jerry) McNary, Orrick, Missouri and Grandchildren: Timothy Whitworth, Alma, Missouri and children, Mahala, Madison & Makena. Tiffany (Scott) Schimming, Kansas City, Missouri and children, Xavier and Calvin. Carla Strathman, Slater, Missouri. Michael Cloe, Marshall, Missouri. Marquita Leeman, Concordia, Missouri. Elizabeth (Joshua) Heimer, rural Lexington and daughter, Charleigh. Darian Eggleston and DJ Peppers, Lone Jack, Missouri and children Addison and Waverly. Paul Strathman, Concordia, Missouri. Skyler and Summit Eggleston, Orrick, Missouri. Alexandrea Strathman, Marshall, Missouri. Koehler, Reuben, Lillian, Del, Clara and Silas Strathman, Alma, Missouri. Stryker and Myer McNary, Orrick, Missouri and brothers, Gary (LaDonna) Seger and Dennis (Patricia) Seger of Sugar Creek, Missouri. He is proceeded in death by a daughter, Julianna Seger, in 1976, a grandchild, Julianna Elizabeth Cloe in 1984, his parents, Roy Chester in 2004 and Esther Elizabeth (Gast) Seger in 2012. He was owner and operator of Seger Landscaping for over 50 years. He was a charter member of the Ole Car Unit of the Ararat Shrine and Metro Antique Auto Club. He was a longtime member of the Horseless Carriage Club in Kansas City, Missouri and in later years a member of Missouri Valley Tractor Club of Lexington, Missouri. Delmar was a 50-year member of Mt. Washington (Missouri) Lodge No. 614 becoming a Free Mason in 1969 and a Master Mason in 1970 and then became a member of the Ararat Shrine. Delmar purchased his first antique car (1933 Plymouth Coupe) in 1963 for $200 and has since that time restored classic cars and tractors. He organized and managed many classic car excursions, tours and “cruise nights”. He traveled the United States celebrating his love for antique cars. He drove his cars and tractors in the Sugar Creek 4th of July parade and Independence Halloween Parade for over 50 years. Cremation is planned with a memorial service to be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 8, 2020 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052 with inurnment to follow in Mound Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 12:00 p.m., until service time Saturday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Shriner’s Hospital for Children in his honor.
