Paul Allen Macrae, 85, died September 2, 2020 at his home in Independence, Missouri. He was born on January 17, 1935, to Fred Aylor Macrae and Pearl Allen (Foster) Macrae in Independence. Paul graduated from William Chrisman High School and served in the United States Navy from 1952-1954. He married Peggy Lou Carroll on June 25, 1956 and they had two sons together, Ted in 1957 and Todd in 1959. Paul and Peggy were divorced in 1966. From 1983 to 2000, Paul lived in Newland, North Carolina. From 2000 to 2015, he lived in rural Jefferson County, Missouri. During his last years he returned to his hometown of Independence, Missouri. Paul's principal career was as a medical technologist in the laboratories of several hospitals, including the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital in his hometown. In his later career, he worked for the former Sloop Memorial in Jonas Ridge, NC and for St. Anthony's in St. Louis, Missouri. His talents included needlepoint and the creation of outrageous desserts. His cheesecake will never be equaled, and his French toast was a work of art. He had many friendships with people all over the country and in his later years he traveled to the Scotland of his ancestry, a dream of many years' passing. Paul was preceded in death by his father in 1965; his stepfather in 1968; his mother in 1979; his nephew James Macrae in 1980; his sister Joan Macrae Hines in 2004; his niece Trish Macrae Bradley in 2007; his brother David Macrae in 2012; his brother Fred Macrae in 2013; his nephew Paul Hines in 2016; his nephew Mike Macrae in 2019; and his beloved friend Trenace Brewer White in 2019. He also loved and lost several pets over the years including Dinah (1983-1997) and Jennie (1997-2012). Paul is survived by both his sons, daughter, Lisa Kim Grigsby, several grandchildren, his former wife, his brother-in-law David Hines, his sister-in-law Mary Macrae, a number of nieces and nephews, and many cherished friends including his best bike riding and town hopping buddy, Frank Newberg. In accordance with Paul's wishes, no services will be held, but those who remember and loved him are encouraged to do someone a kindness and enjoy an exquisite nightcap, the two things Paul did best. Memorial contributions may be directed to Wayside Waifs of Kansas City or another animal rescue group. Special thanks is due to the staff at the Fountains at Greenbriar, where Paul lived his final years.
