Amparo Cruz Aguilera, 75, of Independence, MO passed away Saturday, November 12, 2011. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 600 N. Liberty, Independence, MO 64050. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2011 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th, Independence, MO 64055 where the rosary will be prayed at 5:30. Burial in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Amparo was born on April 6, 1936 in Bataan, Philippines to Gavino and Herminigilda (Tria) Cruz. She was a graduate of the University of the East with a B.A. in Business Administration. Amparo married Antonino Aguilera on September 10, 1967. She immigrated to the United States and settled in Kansas City, MO in 1970. She worked at the IRS and then KC Public Television as a book keeper for 17 years before retiring in 1998. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She loved gardening, sewing, cooking, especially Filipino food. She took great pride in her family, especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Aguilera is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Antonino Aguilera; son Rolando Aguilera (Karen) and children Ali, Evelyn, Emmanuel, and Jacob; daughter Maria Butkovich (Eric) and children Slava, Nina, Lazarina, Koba, and Viktor; son Anthony Aguilera (Meliza) and children Isabel, Sofia, and Monica; brothers Edilberto Cruz (Amelita) and Deogracias Cruz; uncle Damaso Tria and aunt Lourdes Santos; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings Miguel, Artemio, Cirilo, Amparo, and Marcial Cruz. She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
