Willa May Akers, 77, Sugar Creek, MO passed away Dec. 10, 2010. Services will be 10 am, Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO; interment at Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Wed. at the funeral home.
May was born April 8, 1933 in Charity, MO. She graduated from Charity High School where she played basketball and volleyball and was a cheerleader. She worked as a cashier at TG & Y, which became McCory’s, then Dollar General for many years until her retirement in 1998. May loved playing cards, bingo, going to “the boats” and Oreo cookies.
May was preceded in death by her husband William Akers, in 1994; sisters Yolanda Thurman, Deanna Lillygard and Luella Pettitt. She is survived by daughters Debbie Watson, of the home; Patty Akers, Independence, MO; sons William Jeffery Akers and wife Tammy, Grain Valley, MO; Greg Akers, of the home; brother Jackie Pettitt and wife Mona, Spring Hill, KS; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren
