S. Turner Allen

S. Turner Allen 84, of Blue Springs, MO passed away Sunday, September 14, 2008 at Centerpoint Medical Center. He was born February 1, 1924 in Milton, FL to Martha Ellen Harter and Stephen Grover Allen of the Florida Legislation. Turner was a life long member of the Community of Christ church and served as a High Priest. He was counselor to the President of the Omaha/Council Bluffs Stake, Chairman of Manti Holding Company, member of Investment Advisory, Board Member of Park College, President of Graceland College Foundation, Chairman of Board of Graceland Trustees, Member of Committee for Boy Scouts of America, President of Chamber of Commerce in both Wichita, KS and Lincoln, NE and Director of Better Business Bureau in Wichita, KS. He proudly served as an officer in the US Navy as an Amphibious Roger in the CBI theater in WWII and Chief of Staff Intelligence for Task Force 72 during the Korean War. He then served in the Navy Reserves for nearly 20 years as a LT. Commander. Turner was a CLU in the Insurance industry where he was the Regional Manager of Union Central Life in KCMO. He also worked as Superintendent of Agencies and on the President’s Task Force for Union Central in Cincinnati, OH, Director of Advanced Underwriters, President and CEO of Farmer’s and Banker’s Life in Wichita, KS, Chairman, President and CEO of Midwest Life in Lincoln, NE, Chairman of Board at Optimation Inc. Independence, MO and was a Founding Member of Wasber Industries. In 1945 Turner met his future wife at a church Halloween party. He married Dorothy Bernice Deal on June 7, 1947. He leaves his wife and 4 children; Stephanie Cavin and husband, Stephen of Independence, MO, David Allen of Blue Springs, MO, Dawn Foster and husband, Robert of Melborne, Australia and Paul Allen, Blue Springs, MO; 4 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren; Sisters; Sadie Lundy and Valeria Woods and husband, Lee of Independence; Brother Stetson Allen and wife Effie of Harper, TX. He was preceded in death by brother S.G. Allen, Jr. and brother’s-in-law Bill Lundy, Floyd Deal, Jr. and Tom Deal. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 20, 2008 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial with full military honors will be in Blue Springs Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 7 to 9:00 p.m., Friday evening at the chapel. n
