Grace June Woirhaye Alverson, 90 of Independence, MO passed away, Thursday, July 31, 2008 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 4, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Independence. Graveside services will be 4:00 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Moberly, MO. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m., until service time Monday at the church. Donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church 400 W. Maple Independence, MO 64050. Mrs. Alverson was born June 23, 1918 to E.C. and Myrtle C. Woirhaye of Warsaw, MO. She graduated from the Warsaw Grade and High School and the Central State College in Warrensburg, MO with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She taught in one-room grade schools in Pettis and Benton Counties. The last 14 years were spent teaching in the Warsaw Public School. Mrs. Alverson was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for 50 years. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women and served on the Executive Board on the District and local UMW for a number of years and a member of the American Association of University Women. In 1958 she married Floyd Alverson, and they lived 50 years of their married life in Independence. Her husband survives her. Floyd was not only her best friend, but her constant companion. She leaves two nieces, Mae Hesse and her husband, Harold of Cole Camp, MO, Pat Kluter and her husband, Kenny of Belton, MO; a nephew, Donald Ragar and his wife Jan and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and infant son, John Turner Alverson, a sister, Zola Ragar and two brothers, Norval Woirhaye and Warren Woirhaye.
