Anastasia Rose (Villegas) Martinez, a beloved homemaker and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully at her home in Independence, Missouri on January 1, 2026. She was 91 years old. Born on April 27, 1934, in Kansas City, Missouri, she lived a life rich in kindness, love, and faith.

Anastasia was known for her caring demeanor and strong Catholic faith, which guided her throughout her life. Her spirituality was evident in all her interactions, touching the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. As a homemaker, she dedicated herself to creating a warm and nurturing environment for her family, a role she cherished deeply.

Anastasia had a passion for cooking, especially for her family, and she took great joy in preparing meals for her loved ones, particularly her grandchildren. Her culinary skills created lasting memories around the dinner table, where laughter and love would fill the air.

Among her many interests, Anastasia enjoyed the thrill of visiting the casino monthly with her siblings, a tradition that brought them together and strengthened their bonds. A devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Royals, she celebrated her teams with enthusiasm every chance she got.

Anastasia also had a flair for dancing. In her younger days, she even won a dance contest. She had a zest for life. Shopping brought her happiness as well, relishing the little joys that life offered.

She is survived by her children, Rita Bryant (Jay), Denise Martinez, Olivia Comer (Scott), Anthony Martinez II (Connie), Andre Martinez (Kerry), Adrian Martinez and Jennifer Martinez; sister, Maria Teresa Pedroza (Robert); brother, Raphael Villegas; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Anastasia is preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 70 years, Anthony; parents, Aquilino and Tomasa (Hernandez) Villegas; grandson, Andre Martinez; and 10 siblings.

Anastasia will be remembered for the warmth and love she infused into every aspect of her life. She leaves behind a community touched by her grace and a family who will carry her memory forward with pride.

A rosary will be recited at 9am on Thursday, January 8th at St. Mark Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30am with mass to follow at 10:30am. She will be laid to rest at 2pm at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri. 

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Mark Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society.
