Constance “Connie” E. (Trevier) Arand, 87, passed away on January 31, 2013 at Kansas City Hospice House. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at 10:00 am followed by the funeral mass at 11:00 am at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 South Lee’s Summit Road, Independence, MO 64055. There will be a meal immediately afterwards at the church for family and friends. Burial in Catholic Cemetery (Resurrection Cemetery) 8321 Quivira Rd., Lenexa, KS will follow.
Connie was born on October 14, 1925, in Ottawa, Illinois, to Ellen and Frank Trevier. At the age of 10 she became the ward of Lester and Agnes Kilby of Vandalia, MO, where she lived until she went to college at the University of Missouri. There she majored in Education and became an elementary school teacher.
In 1946, while working at the Board of Health in Jefferson City, MO, she met Richard Arand and they were married on May 31, 1947. In 1954, they moved to Overland Park, KS, where they raised their four children. There they were active members of Queen of the Holy Rosary Church.
Connie’s greatest joy was being with children. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was actively involved in her children’s lives as a volunteer at their schools, as a den mother and Girl Scout troop leader, and was a mom to all the kids in the neighborhood.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers and 4 sisters, and her newborn daughter, Mary Theresa. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Dick Arand of the home, son Rick Arand (Judy) of Lee’s Summit, son Mike Arand (Vicky) of Tulsa, OK, son Dale Arand (Liberty) of Denver, CO, daughter, Donna Arand-Hopkins (John) of Savannah, GA, 9 grandchildren, Brad, Matt, Deneale, Nathan, Rachel, David, Jacob, Isaiah, Lahya, and 6 great-grandchildren, Mallory, Lucas, Austin, Emery, Mason and Andrew.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Rd., Kansas City, MO 64145 or St. Mark’s Catholic Church.
