Ronnie D. Ashworth, Sr. 63, Independence, MO, passed away August 22, 2010.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, September 3, 2010 at Carson-Speaks Funeral Home. 1501 W. Lexington Ave. Independence, MO. Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Children with AIDS Project; PO Box 23778, Tempe, AZ 85285.
Ronnie was born December 5, 1946 in St. Joseph, MO the son of Laurice “Shorty” and Lauretta (Sowell) Ashworth. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, of 15 years having served in Vietnam. Ronnie retired in 2008 from the Postal Service as a Machine Supervisor. He played the guitar for many years and was often seen playing with numerous bands at the Eagles Lodge in Independence. Ronnie married Linda R. Baker in 1965, and they had two sons. He later married Cathy Hiatt in 1986. Ronnie was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his sons, Ronnie D. Ashworth, Jr. of Independence; and Thomas E. Ashworth and his wife Jamie of Omaha, NE; step-son, Charlie Hiatt of Bethany; grandson, Ethan Alexander; mother, Lauretta Ashworth; sister, Nancy George; brother, Denny Ashworth all of St. Joseph; and numerous nieces and nephews.
