Nelda Atkins

Nelda Aina (Dolmanis) Atkins, 90, died April 14, 2012 at her home in Independence, MO. Services will be 10 am, Friday, April 20 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1400 W. Sheley Rd., Independence, MO 64052; interment at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Thursday at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Trinity Presbyterian Memorial Fund c/o of the church.
Nelda was born Jan. 26, 1922, in Tasi, Latvia to Kristaps and Alma Dolmanis. She became one of the many War brides when she met and married her GI soldier, Norman Atkins, in Germany, on May 19, 1946. She was one of the founding members of Trinity Presbyterian Church and participated in the Choir for many years.
Nelda was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister, Velta Piece. She is survived by son Ronald Atkins and wife Terry; daughters Sandra Atkins and Julie Atkins; granddaughters Jennifer Garcia and husband Andy; Lindsay Atkins; great-granddaughter Olivia Garcia and sister-in-law Ellen Murphy and husband Dan.
