Marlyn Janice Atkinson left this life on Nov. 24, 2010, surrounded by her children. She was born Sept. 12, 1929, in Little River, KS., to Lawrence and Ruby Timmons. After graduating from Bushton high school in 1947, she attended Colorado Women’s College. While there, she met and married Edgar (Eddie) Atkinson on June 20, 1949. They had three children: Janice, Donald, and Larry. Their life as an Air Force family enabled them to live in Japan and Okinawa as well as stateside. Marlyn finished her education degree at Sterling College and dedicated 33 years to teaching business classes at St. John High School in St. John, Kansas. She earned her masters at Fort Hays State. After retirement, she volunteered at the Shepherd Center in St. John, served on the Kansas Silver-Haired Legislature, and traveled with friends. She loved sharing stories of her experiences in Australia and Europe. Always an adventurous spirit, she found interests in camping, whitewater rafting, and following the school activities of her grandchildren. “Grandma Marlyn” moved to Blue Springs, Missouri, in 2001. Marlyn is survived by her children: Janice and husband Dennis of Blue Springs, Donald and wife Patti of Colorado Springs, Larry and wife Shirley of Blue Springs; her brother and sister-in-law Darol and Lois Timmons of Richland, WA; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one niece, one nephew, and seven great-nieces and nephews.
