Donald Dean Bailey, 80, passed away on September 2, 2015, in Kansas City, MO.
Family will greet friends from 10-11am Tuesday, September 8, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. in Independence. A memorial service will be at 11:00am Tuesday at the chapel; inurnment with full military honors will follow at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville.
Contributions may be made to American Legion Post #21, his home post for many years, in his honor.
Don was born on November 8, 1934, in Independence, MO, to John and Louise (Petrovic) Bailey. He attended William Chrisman High School and later joined the Army, serving his country from 1957-1959. After honorable discharge, Don met Betty Renaud on a blind date, and married her three months later. They stayed in the Independence area and raised a family. Don worked for Greyhound Lines, Inc. as a driver for 29 years until retirement. He cherished vacations with the pop-up trailer in tow, as well as fishing, duck hunting, model airplane-building, and taking care of his well-manicured lawn. Above all, his family was his pride and joy, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; son, David; daughter, Karen (Scott); grandchildren, Angela, Donald, Jacob, Christopher, and Ashley; great-grandchildren, Olive, Christopher Jr., Colton, Isaac, Ashlynn, Kaylee, McKenzie, and one on the way; brother, Bob; sister, Diane; sister-in-law, Jacqueline; and a host of extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mike.
