Lucille Vernice Baker, 88 of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away Sun. Dec. 23, 2007 at the John Knox Care Center. Visitation will be from 1 to 2:00 p.m. Sat, Dec. 29, 2007 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Indep. MO with a graveside service being held at 2:30 p.m. at Md. Grove Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to Village Hospice, 1010 Chipman Rd., Lee’s Summit, MO 64081. Mrs. Baker was born on May 25, 1919 to William and Leona (Markello) Charles in Metz, MO and had lived in Independence, and Grain Valley before moving to Lee’s Summit in 1995. She had been a secretary with the Allis-Chalmers Combine Plant, retiring after 20 years. Lucille was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed, playing cards, gardening, and spending time with family. She was a longtime member of the R.L.D.S. Church and was active in the Senior citizen’s group in Grain Valley. She was also a member of the Tirey J. Ford American Legion Post 21 ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her husband, Garth Baker in 1990 and a sister, Venice Henehan in 1991. She is survived by a son, Jim Baker and wife Brenda of Lenexa, KS, a daughter, Melody Studer and husband Bob of Lee’s Summit, MO, and two grandchildren, Brandon and Ashley Baker. The family would like to thank the staff of John Knox Care Center and Village Hospice for their love and care given to Lucille and her family over the years.
