Dorothy Phyllis Baldwin, 84, of Independence, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Liberty Hospital. Dorothy was born January 20, 1925 to Sam and Beulah Morrone in Lee’s Summit, MO. After graduating from Lee’s Summit High School, she worked at Hallmark Cards and worked 14 years at the Kansas City Southern Railroad, where she met her husband of 54 years, Chester L. Baldwin. Dorothy loved to play bridge, travel, enjoyed gardening, was active in the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees (NARVRE) and was an avid Chiefs fan. Besides her parents, a sister, Evelyn Killion, and brother-in-law, George Whiting, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband and one son, Rick, and wife Joy of Liberty; a sister, Norma Lee Whiting of Lee’s Summit; a brother, Sam Morrone, Jr. (wife Marjorie) of Salina, KS; three grandchildren: Katie, Amber, and Brett; one great-grandchild, Addisen; several nieces and nephews; and her cherished grand-dog, Lily.
A visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM Friday, March 27 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence. Services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday at the Chapel with burial at Lee’s Summit Cemetery.
