Shirley “Joan” Baldwin, 72 of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Lee’s Summit Medical Center. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Sycamore Hills Baptist Church 15200 E. 39th St. S., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will be in Lee’s Summit Historical Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Friday evening at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. Donations may be made in her name to the Sycamore Hills Baptist Church Building Fund. Joan was born February 19, 1938 in Stockton, MO to Elis and Beulah (Turner) Hayward and was raised by her mother and stepfather, Barton Kenney. She had worked as a catalogue clerk for the Mid Continent Public Library in Independence, MO for over 24 years before she retired. She enjoyed craftwork, traveling, sewing and gospel music. She was a member of the Sycamore Hills Baptist Church where she enjoyed all kinds of church work and was a Sunday school teacher. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Max Baldwin of the home; 3 daughters, Teresa Henny and her husband Gary of Raymore, MO, Sherry Klasing and her husband Dave and Karen Thomas all of Independence, MO; her mother, Beulah Kenney of Independence, MO; 5 granddaughters and 2 great grandsons.
