Laretha J. Ballard, 73, Independence, Mo., passed away Monday, January 4, 2010, at Centerpoint Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, January 7, 2010, at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave. Independence, Mo. Private burial will be Friday at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to Crossroad Hospice.
Laretha was born March 8, 1936, in Claremore, OK, the daughter of Raymond and Rheata (Bettis) Brazil. She was employed with Truman East Long Term Care Center as an LPN until 1986. She enjoyed listening to old time country and gospel music and she especially loved spending time with her family.
Laretha was preceded in death by her husband Vincel in 2005 and her son, David in 1989. Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Ballard; step-son, Gary Ballard and his wife of Sedalia; step-daughter; Cheryl Furnell and her husband Jerry of Lee’s Summit; eight grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren.
