Barbara Luella Charde, a cherished soul whose life was woven with threads of music, art, and the warmth of friendship, departed this world on March 23, 2025, in Leawood, Kansas. Born on December 14, 1946, in Kansas City, Missouri, Barbara embraced the rhythm of life around her, stepping to a beat that was uniquely hers—often referred to fondly as ‘Barbara time’.
As a licensed specialist clinical social worker, Barbara dedicated her career to the nurturing of minds and hearts, first with Johnson County Mental Health and later with the state of Missouri social services. Her gentle spirit and profound understanding of the human condition made a lasting impact on those she encountered, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and empathy.
Barbara was a free spirit, yet held her innermost thoughts close, allowing her friends and family glimpses into her vibrant world of creativity and passion. She found joy in a multitude of experiences—delighting in concerts that resonated deep within her soul, traveling to far-off places, and immersing herself in the arts and performing arts. Whether it was scrapbooking or card making, her creative pursuits were a canvas for her imagination, each piece a testament to her loving nature and desire to connect with those around her.
Her love for music knew no bounds; she celebrated each genre, each note, and every melody was a part of her identity. Barbara was the friend who could light up a room with her intelligence and laughter; she cherished the moments spent with loved ones, crafting memories that linger in the hearts of those she touched.
She is survived by her beloved brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Shirley Charde, along with her niece Stephanie Charde Luntsford, her husband Tim Luntsford and their daughters Aliyah Luntsford and Paige Luntsford, extended family, and dear friends who will carry forward the spirit of her love and light. Barbara joins her parents in eternal rest: Alfred B. Charde and Zoe Ellen Charde Armour, and her nephew Marc Charde, who undoubtedly welcomed her into their embrace with open arms.
As we remember Barbara Luella Charde, let us celebrate a life well-lived—a tapestry of music, art, and profound connections that enrich the lives of others. She will be deeply missed, her legacy forever echoing in our hearts, like a favorite song that plays on repeat.
