Barbara Dale Harbaugh, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away on August 1, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri. Born on December 1, 1936, in Sedalia, Missouri, Barbara's legacy is woven with kindness and dedication.
For over 45 years, Barbara devoted herself to her role as a bus driver for the Independence School District. She approached her job with passion and pride, transporting countless students safely, and serving as a trusted presence on their daily journeys.
Beyond her work Barbara looked forward to monthly breakfasts with her fellow bus driver friends, sharing laughter and stories together. Barbara was a bargain shopper and loved exploring Hy-Vee for their weekly deals. Her baking skills became legendary, especially when it came to making wedding cakes for family and friends to celebrate their special occasions. In her leisure time, she found simple pleasures in watching game shows on tv and simply just being with her family whom were her proudest accomplishment.
Barbara's impact extends to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her kindness was a guiding light, illuminating the lives of both family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the happiness of those around her.
Barbara is survived by her children, William “Todd” Harbaugh, Leigh Herrman (Tim) and Michael Harbaugh (Sheri); grandchildren, Tiffany Harbaugh, James Herrman, Jeremy Herrman and Jessica McGuire (Kirby); sister, Billie Simmons (Neal); and 5 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mervin and Helen (Wren) Cary and grandson, Michael Harbaugh II; sister, Deanna Pieratt and brother, Mervin “Sonny” Cary.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate her remarkable life during the visitation on August 19, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Carson-Speaks Chapel, located at 1501 W Lexington Ave, Independence, MO. The following day, a funeral service will take place at the same location, starting at 10:00 AM, with burial to follow at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens.
