Barbara Joyce Turner (Bobbie), born on October 12, 1935, in Kansas City, Missouri, was a beloved figure whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 24, 2025, in Independence, Missouri, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Those fortunate enough to know her recognized that she was truly a force to be reckoned with—a testament to her remarkable personality. Bobbie's fierce independence and resiliency was matched only by her immense love for her family and life long friends, who filled her life with joy and infectious laughter.
In 1955, she married the late Jerry Joe Turner, and together they built a life in Independence that was rich with love and community. Their household was always the center of gatherings with friendships that spanned over 60 years. Barbara delighted in playing penny slots at the casino and spent countless joyful days at the Lake of the Ozarks that included on occasional bingo game. She also found great enjoyment in her iPad games, a testament to her spirited nature and desire for fun. Especially important to her daily interaction was the deep friendship of her neighbors she considered family that supported her for many years.
Bobbie was a working Mom that navigated her career with independence and intelligence, holding various positions that showcased her strong, fierce character in the Finance industry as a loan and collections officer and office professional.
Bobbie's family was at the center of her universe. Her love was particularly profound for her two daughters, Sherry Turner and Lori Yager, her son-in-law Joe Yager, her cherished grandchildren: Lindsay Andersen and husband Cole, Lucas Schubert and partner Jeffrey, Samantha Yager, along with her great-grandchildren, Paxton and Presley Andersen, niece Tami Moran and husband Sean, niece Terri Turner, and nephews Mark and Matthew Moran. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and her nurturing spirit was a constant source of strength and comfort.
Bobbie shared a bond with her siblings that transcended time. She is survived by her brother, Jerry Young and sister-in-law Barbara, and sister, Kathie Brocato, who will carry forward the memories of their childhood adventures and familial love. Also surviving Bobbie are many nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Though Bobbie now joins her husband, Jerry Turner, son, Larry Turner and so many close friends, family and neighbors, she will be remembered not only for her strength but also for her kindness, which radiated through her interactions with everyone she touched.
In celebrating the life of Barbara (Bobbie) Joyce Turner, we honor a remarkable woman whose spirit and unyielding love will echo in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a vibrant legacy enriched by the laughter, lessons, and love she so generously shared. Her departure leaves a void, but the indelible mark she left on this world will continue to inspire and uplift those who carry her memory forward.
Bobbie was not interested in recognition, personal accolades or celebration and was particularly firm about her passing with her family. Although funeral services are not a part of her plan, Bobbie never missed a party, so a celebration of her with all the many lives she has touched will be shared at a later date.
