Cecil D. Barker, 80, of Independence, MO passed away Friday, November 6, 2015. A visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00am, Tuesday, November 10. A funeral service will follow at 10:00am. Burial will be at Mt. Washington Cemetery with Military Honors.
Cecil was born July 12, 1935 in Lancaster, KY as one of four children to Isaac A. and Zelda (Onstott) Barker. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict in the Reconnaissance Division. He married his beloved Clara (Baker) Rossi on June 29, 1957 in Chicago, IL. Together they had six children. He was a devoted husband and father. Cecil worked for Allis Chalmers as a painter and welder for over 35 years before retirement in 1997. Earning the nickname “Red” he was well respected at work and taught his children the value of a good work ethic. He also enjoyed taking his family fishing. Cecil had an extraordinary ability to transform something worn into a working treasure. He also had an amazing “green thumb” and could grow vegetables in any climate and any place. Cecil is loved and will be missed.
Survivors include daughter, Carmella Swaim (Brian) of the middle east; daughter, Cindy Hegarty (Mickey) of Oak Grove, MO; son, Terry L. Barker, Sr. of Independence; daughter, Cheri Hunt of Independence; and daughter Christy Roberts (David) of Independence; grandchildren, Carrie Minton (Craig), Shane Hegarty (Jill), Shawna, Marchelle, and Terry Lee Barker Jr.; Bobby, Chad, and Mandy Hunt; and Courtney, Jesse, and Alaena Roberts; fifteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
