Velma Naomi (Middleton) Bartlett, 105, of Independence, MO, passed away, Monday, August 27, 2007 at Independence Manor Care Center. Velma was born August 21, 1902 in rural Kanorado, KS, the second born of nine children to Warren Elmer and Lillie May (Fender) Middleton. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a charter member of the Slover Park Congregation since 1944. She was married to John Russell Bartlett on October 9, 1921; he preceded her in death on August 20, 1970. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Velma Fern Marr of Independence, MO; grandchildren, Janice Myers and her husband John of Independence, MO, Lawrence Harrington and wife Ann of Mesa, AZ, John Harrington and wife Frances of Independence, MO, Sandra Dutzel and husband Leonard of Independence, MO, Lorna Stocker and husband Mike of Buckner, MO and David Bartlett of Independence, MO; numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and great great great grandchildren; a sister and brother, Dorothy Hurst of Independence, MO and Orwin Middleton of Cambria, CA and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Edward Bartlett, a grandson Gregory Marr in 1991 and a daughter-in-law Ruth Bartlett. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 30, 2007 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m., until service time Thursday at the chapel. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Crossroads Hospice.
