Evelyn Barwise, 90, of Independence passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at her home. A visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM, Friday, Feb. 8 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave. Memorial services will be 11 AM, Saturday, Feb. 9 at College Park Community of Christ; private family burial. The family suggests contributions be made to Outreach International.
Evelyn was born June 11, 1917 in Wray, CO to John Logan and Ellen Elizabeth (Tabor) Brown. She attended Warrensburg College, graduating with a teaching degree. She worked in education for many years and later became a librarian. Evelyn became a member of the Community of Christ at the age of 8 and has remained active in all parts of the church, most recently serving as Evangelist. She was a member of College Park Community of Christ. Evelyn loved her family and enjoyed visiting people and reading.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Barwise, and by her son, Jon Barwise. She is survived by her daughter Judith Varalli and husband Dan; son, Brad Barwise and wife Pam; daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Barwise; brother, Lawrence Brown and wife Dee; seven grandchildren: Melanie, Jon, Claire, David, Allisa, Laurel, and Casey; and nine great-grandchildren. Evelyn was a caring and loving woman who will be missed by all who knew her.
