Patsy Joyce Bates, 76, of Independence, MO passed away peacefully, Monday, February 11, 2008 at John Knox Care Center. Cremation is planned with a memorial service to be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, February 16, 2008 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m., until service time Saturday at the chapel. Donations may be made to the St. Luke’s Hospice P.O. Box 504102 St. Louis, MO 63150-4102, or to the hospice of the donor’s choice. Patsy was born June 16, 1931 in Ft. Smith, AR to Olen and Effie (Hooper) Lambert and moved to the Kansas City area at an early age. She attended public schools and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1949. Shortly after graduation she was married to David Bates and later divorced. She enjoyed traveling, theatre and musicals. She had worked as an office manager in the accounting department for I.T.C.O. for 15 years before leaving there in 1983 to work in telecommunications for G.E.H.A., retiring in the mid 1990’s. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Independence and had attended St. John’s Episcopal Church in Kansas City, MO. Following her retirement she did volunteer work in the office at Trinity Episcopal. Survivors include; a daughter, Cynthia A. Bates and husband Ronald C. Rosenthal of Independence, MO; 3 brothers, Donald Baker of Columbia, MO, Rick Baker of Independence, MO and Michael Baker of Ft. Myers, FL; 3 step grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews who knew and loved her as “Aunty Pat”. She was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Grote in September of 2004.
