Joseph M. Bay, 97, of Kansas City, MO passed away July 21, 2011. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2011 at Carson Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 9-10:00 a.m. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2011 in Mound Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Highlands Community of Christ, 7615 Platte Purchase Dr., Kansas City, MO 64118. Joseph was born February 16, 1914 in Omaha, NE to Joseph and Edna (Skeels) Bay. He lived in the Kansas City area all of his life. He married Daisy Fern Ellsworth in March of 1940 and they shared 51 years together until her death in 1991. Mr. Bay graduated from Lathrop Polytechnic Institute in 1932, and worked as a Sheet Metal worker with Local #2 for 23 years. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving three years in the Army Corps of Engineers in the European Field. Joe was a member of the Englewood congregation of the Community of Christ, and served as an Elder in various ministries for many years. At the time of his death he was a member of the Highlands congregation. Mr. Bay enjoyed bowling, and was in two leagues until age 91. Joe loved spending time at his house on the Lake of the Ozarks. Joe is survived by his daughter Nancy Short and husband Les; granddaughters Carrie Bond and husband Kevin, Laura Self and husband Chris; seven great-grandchildren Samantha Giltner, Tyler, Jennifer and Logan Self, Andrew Bond and Ryan Self; sister Agnes Sweeny. He was preceded in death by his wife; four sisters and one brother.
