Douglas M. Beck passed away July 4, 2010, at his home in Lee’s Summit, Mo., after a courageous five-year battle with cancer.
Services will be held Saturday, July 10, at 10 a.m., at the LDS Kansas City Stake Center, 850 SE Church Street, Lee’s Summit, Mo. A visitation will be held Friday, July 9, from 6–8 p.m., at the same location.
Committal services will be at noon, Tuesday, July 13, at Larkin Sunset Gardens, Sandy, UT. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to LDS Charities and the Missionary Fund.
Doug was born March 16, 1953, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Russell R. and Maxine Mickelsen Beck. He grew up in Murray, Utah, earned his Eagle Scout award and graduated from Murray High School. He attended Brigham Young University, receiving a BS in Accounting, Masters in Accounting, and a Juris Doctorate. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the England Birmingham Mission from 1972-74. He married Sandra Lynn Williams in the Salt Lake Temple on Aug. 5, 1977.
Doug is survived by Sandra and their five children: Stephenson and wife Sarah, Fargo, N.D.; Heidi and husband Thomas, Birmingham, Al.; David and wife Christine, Provo, Utah; Heather and husband Daniel, Las Vegas, Nev.; and Mark, Rexburg, Idaho, as well as two brothers, Bruce, Sandy, Utah, and Ray, Murray, Utah. Additionally, he has four grandchildren.
Doug was an active member of the LDS Church, serving as a bishop, high councilor, temple ordinance worker, and as a member of the Missouri Independence Mission presidency. He worked as an attorney at Swanson Midgley LLC and is a member of the American Bar Association and the J. Reuben Clark Law Society. Doug will be remembered for his devotion to his family and religion, his quick wit and humor, and his love for missionary work.
