Ann Becker

October 5, 1914 — July 13, 2011

Ann M. (nee Schneider) Becker, 96, born October 5, 1914 in Rantoul near Chilton, WI, passed away July 13, 2011. Ann grew up on the family farm and moved to KC MO with her husband and four children in 1949 to establish the family vending machine business. Ann served 50 years on the Democratic Election Board, was a member of the Ladies Knights of Columbus, Daughters of Isabella, the Over “21” Club and volunteered for the Little Sisters of the Poor and St. Joseph’s Hospital. Prior to retirement she worked at Sears on the Plaza and KC Sanitary Supply to help put her children through Catholic schools.

She was always alive with life, prayer and her family were her most treasured assets. Ann never met a stranger and had tons of friends. She never looked back to the past but always to the future. Loving to cook and entertain she never sat down when guests were present. She loved to play all kinds of card games such as bridge, gin, poker, cribbage and Sheeps Head. Crossword puzzles, reading books on mysteries and espionage, playing Scrabble, playing on her computer and emailing (started at age 81) kept her active until the end. She lived independently until her last days.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Eugene J. Becker of 60 years, her loving son, Warren M. Becker, granddaughter Kathleen A. (Schatz) Minor and seven brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her sister, Eleanor Woelfel, brother Henry (Odelia) Schneider of WI; three daughters Margaret A. (James) Schatz, Springfield, MO; Bernita L. (Joseph) Centeno, Simi Valley, CA; and Mary D. (Mark) Langseth, KC MO. Seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, Donna M. (John) Pinney, Springfield, MO; Elizabeth (Keegan) Kimbrough, St. Louis, MO; Ryann and Megan Pinney, Springfield, MO; Robert G. (Rebecca) Schatz, Kersten and Bethany Schatz, KC MO; Linda L. (Christopher) McClay, Sean and Rachel McClay, Bolivar, MO; Steven (Kelly) Becker, Lauren and Tyler Becker, Sunnyvale, CA; and Michael J. (Lea) Centeno, Nicholas Centeno, and step-grandchildren Tyler, Santa Clarita, CA; and daughter-in-law Patricia (Eldridge) Becker Joyce. A rosary will be said at 9:00 AM Monday, July 18, 2011 with visitation at 9:15 AM at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church; 4101 E. 105th Terr, KC MO. Mass of Resurrection will be at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Little Sisters of the Poor, 8745 James A Reed Rd, KC, MO 64138.
