Benedean Peters, affectionately known as Benny, passed away on July 27, 2025, in Independence, Missouri at the age of 98. Born on July 25, 1927, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Glenn and Essie (Proffitt) McElroy, she lived a life marked by love, resilience, and a deep commitment to her family.
Benny entered the workforce as a food service worker at Benton Elementary School, where she touched the lives of countless children with her warm smile and culinary skills. After marrying the love of her life, John H. Peters, Benny devoted herself to the art of nurturing and raising seven children, a feat that stands as one of her proudest accomplishments. She was known for her incredible chicken noodle soup, made from scratch with homemade noodles during the chilly winter months, and her mouth-watering barbecue ribs that brought family and friends together on summer evenings. Benny had a passion for quilting and crocheting, often sharing her handmade creations with those she loved. She found peace and joy in her beautifully tended vegetable and flower gardens, where she could watch nature thrive and reflect on the blessings of life.
Benny is survived by her daughters, Susan Hale and Sharon Grobmyer (David); her sons, Kevin Peters (Tina Gates) and Ronald Peters (Phyllis); eight grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Peters; her sons, Kenneth Peters, Raymond Peters, and John Peters Jr, and her parents, Glenn and Essie McElroy.
As we remember Benny, we celebrate a life that was a tapestry of love, dedication, and memoires woven through shared meals and laughter. Her spirit will forever remain in our hearts, reminding us of the warmth of her embrace and the love she freely gave to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
