Kenneth Benedict

Kenneth D. Benedict, 86 of Independence, MO passed away, Friday, April 11, 2008 at his residence. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday April 15, 2008 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Monday evening at the chapel. Kenneth was born September 11, 1921 in St. Joseph, MO to Charles William and Minnie May (Bridges) Benedict. He grew up in Missouri graduating from Savannah High School and attended Kansas City Junior College before joining the service. He had worked as an Electronic Design Engineer for the Bendix Corporation for over 30 years, retiring in 1982. He enjoyed church work, flying as a private pilot and repairing antique radios. He was a member of Eden Heights Congregation of the RLDS church since 1936 and an elder in the church since 1964. He was also a member of the Toastmasters Generals, National Honor Society, the I.E.E.E. and a life member of the VFW in Independence. He proudly served as a Chief Petty officer in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was awarded a Letter of Commendation for his efforts. He was married to Hallowgene Stephens on May 7, 1942, and she resides at the home. Other survivors include; 2 sons, Eric Paul Benedict and his wife Louise of Knoxville, TN and Ronald David Benedict and his wife Carmen of Independence, MO; a daughter, Susan Angela Farrar and her husband Robert Lee of Independence, MO; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Robert Benedict in 1989. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cancer Action Fund or to Vitas Hospice.
