Harold J. “Chip” Bergstrom, 88, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away Saturday, July 24, 2010 surrounded by his family. An informal gathering for family and friends will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 26, 2010 at the Bergstrom home. Cremation with private inurnment at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Wayside Waifs, PO Box 9791, Kansas City, MO 64134. Chip was born September 20, 1921 in Worchester, MA to John and Catherine (Brady) Bergstrom. Mr. Bergstrom graduated from Clark University with an Economics Degree. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Mr. Bergstrom was commissioned into the 101st cavalry and selected for Army Specialist Training. He was assigned to the 14th Army Armed Division serving in Holland, France and Germany until the end of the war. After V.E. day, he returned from Germany and married his sweetheart, Jean Pargeon Walmsley. They were united in marriage on December 28, 1946 and later moved to Independence, MO. Together they raised their three girls, Joan (Jodi), Ruth and Gail. Chip was an Engineer with Ford Motor Co. in Claycomo before his retirement. Mr. Bergstrom was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jean Bergstrom; daughters Joan (Jodi) Bergstrom and companion Ken Bellerive, Ruth Creeden and husband Frank, and Gail Murray and husband Keith; grandchildren Jennifer Mason, Katie (Creeden) Green, John Plunkett, and Linzi Murray; sister Helen Hogan. Chip was preceded in death by his brother John “Red” Bergstrom. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Luke’s Hospital Neurological ICU for their love and care provided to Chip.
