G. Everett Berndt, 90, of Longmont, CO and formerly of Independence, MO, passed away peacefully April 21, 2009. A memorial service celebrating Everett’s life will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Everett was born June 9, 1918 to Otto and Myrtle Berndt in Pontiac, MI. Everett served his country as an Air Force officer during World War II. Upon his return from the military, he went under church appointment with the Community of Christ church serving as building manager of the Auditorium, Kansas City Stake Bishop and worked for the Atherton Levy District. He was a loyal friend, devoted and loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Everett was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marjorie McLeod; and wife Margaret "Peggy" Berndt. Survivors include his daughter, Cynthia VanDeVoorde and her husband Daryl; his foster daughter, Elaine Bradford and her husband Fred; and all their children & grandchildren; granddaughter, Charise Prater and her husband John and great-grandchildren Zachary, Allison and Kaitlyn. For those who knew and loved Everett, he will be greatly missed.
