With profound sadness and immense love, we announce the passing of Berton Wayne "Bert" Adkins, who passed away on July 26, 2026, in Independence, Missouri, at the age of 58. Born on September 2, 1967, in Springfield, Missouri, Bert lived a life defined by kindness, generosity, laughter, and unwavering devotion to the people he loved.

Bert attended Camdenton R-3 Schools before earning his bachelor's degree from Missouri State University. Music was one of his earliest passions, and he proudly played the trumpet throughout high school and college. During his freshman year at Missouri State, he made history as the first freshman ever accepted into the university's bowling league—a testament to his remarkable talent and competitive spirit. Whether he was bowling, playing racquetball, or enjoying a round of golf as often as he could, Bert approached every game with enthusiasm, humility, and a smile.

Professionally, Bert built a successful career at FINRA, where he served as a manager. While his accomplishments were many, those who worked alongside him will remember him most for the way he led—with patience, compassion, integrity, and genuine care for every member of his team. He believed in lifting others up, encouraging their success, and making everyone feel valued. To his coworkers, he wasn't just a manager; he was a mentor, a trusted friend, and an extraordinary leader.

In February 2019, fate stepped in when a dear friend introduced Bert to her best friend, Diane, at Score Sports Bar and Grill. From the moment they met, there was an undeniable connection, and they quickly became inseparable. Their love story flourished through countless adventures, laughter, and unwavering companionship. In 2023, while visiting Branson, Missouri, Bert proposed to Diane, beginning the next chapter of their beautiful journey together.

On November 21, 2023, the two were married by Elvis at The Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, their favorite city and a place filled with cherished memories. Their marriage was built on unconditional love, friendship, humor, and a shared passion for experiencing everything life had to offer. Together they traveled, explored wineries, enjoyed live music, savored incredible meals, relaxed with cigars and Old Fashioneds, and embraced every adventure side by side.

Bert adored Diane with every fiber of his being. His greatest joy was making sure she was comfortable, cared for, spoiled whenever possible, and reminded daily how deeply she was loved. He also delighted in teasing her with his playful, ornery sense of humor, bringing laughter into even the simplest moments. Their love was one that inspired everyone fortunate enough to witness it.

Bert was famous for grilling the perfect steak, preparing unforgettable breakfasts, and making fried potatoes that were always perfectly crisp. He found joy in gathering loved ones around the table, where food became another way he expressed his love.

Bert also had a lifelong appreciation for fantasy and adventure. He was a devoted fan of The Lord of the Rings and read every one of J.R.R. Tolkien's books multiple times. He loved Star Wars, and both Marvel and DC comic books, always embracing the wonder and imagination they inspired.

Bert loved his Harley-Davidson and the freedom of the open road. Some of his happiest moments were spent riding with Diane, exploring the beauty of Missouri and traveling to national parks across the country. Whether it was a short weekend ride or an adventure to Sturgis, they loved making memories together, one mile at a time.

His gentle nature extended to every living creature. Bert loved animals, and they seemed instinctively drawn to him—a reflection of the kindness that radiated from his heart.

Those who knew Bert will remember far more than his hobbies or accomplishments. They will remember a man who never judged, who welcomed everyone with an open heart, and who possessed a generosity of spirit that cannot be measured. Whether he met someone for a lifetime or only a brief moment, Bert had a remarkable gift for making people feel seen, respected, and important. He left a genuine, lasting impact on family, friends, coworkers, and even strangers fortunate enough to cross his path.

He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word—humble, compassionate, dependable, and endlessly thoughtful. His life was larger than life, not because he sought attention, but because the love he gave was so abundant that it touched countless hearts.

Bert’s passing is preceded by his parents, Berton and Wanda Adkins. His legacy of love and laughter live on through his best friend and beloved wife, Diane Adkins; his brothers, Raymond Bryan Adkins and Roy Lee Adkins; his stepchildren, Beth Boyle and Jon Altis; seven step grandchildren, seven nieces and nephews, three great nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends.

Bert’s remarkable life will be celebrated on Sunday, August 16th at Score Sports Bar and Grill from 2pm to 6 pm.
