Thomas Robert Bessmer, 65, of Buckner, MO passed away March 14, 2015. Services will be at 10 am, Friday, March 20, 2015 at Speaks Buckner Chapel, 300 Adams Street, Buckner, MO 64016; Internment at Buckner Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Thursday, March 19 at the chapel.
Tom was born November 12, 1949 in Independence, MO and graduated from Fort Osage High School in 1968. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Army and served in Vietnam. Upon discharge, he returned to his family in Buckner, where he worked on the family farm and as a millwright through Millwrights and Machinery Erectors Union Local 1529. Tom also applied his mechanical expertise to cars, airplanes, motorcycles, bicycles and anything with moving parts that needed fixing. He enjoyed the outdoors as an avid hunter and fisherman, and even bicycled 1,400 miles to Florida. Tom was a member of the Kansas City Congregation of the United Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his younger brother James Howard Bessmer and by his parents Howard and Rosemary (Bryan) Bessmer. He is survived by his sister Jean Lois Bessmer of Kansas City, KS; his sister Mary Ann Bessmer and her husband, Randal Garten, his nephew James Garten and his wife Gina Garten, all of Arlington, MA; his niece Dianna Garten of New York, NY; and many relatives and friends.
