Betty Jane Maxwell

December 20, 1924 — September 1, 2024

Independence

Betty Jane Maxwell, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, graced this world with her warmth and from December 20, 1924, until her peaceful departure on September 1, 2024. Born in Meadville, Missouri, she was a beacon of love and kindness, whose legacy will continue to bloom in the hearts of those who knew her. Graduating from Meadville High School in the class of 1942, Betty embarked on a career that spanned several decades. She retired from an Individual Assurance Company where she worked in accounts payable, but her skills extended far beyond the confines of her job title. Her versatility showed as she took on various administrative support roles, exemplifying a dedicated work ethic and a reliable presence. Betty's nurturing personality was reflected in her many passions. A great cook, she found joy in creating meals that brought family together, often filling her home with the delightful aromas of her homemade culinary creations. She had a special love for flowers, tending to them and delighting in their beauty brought her much joy. Deeply devoted to her faith, Betty was an active member of Sycamore Hills Baptist church, where she poured her heart into helping others and building lasting connections within her community. Betty’s greatest joy came from her family. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Marilyn Payne and Julie Braby; 5 grandchildren, Bruce (DeeDee) Payne, Joanne (Gib) Masters, Adam (Nikki) Braby, Meghan (Andrew) Wilson, Brian (MacKenzie) Braby; 7 great-grandchildren, extended family, and dear friends, each carrying a piece of her spirit with them. She loved her family immensely, and her nurturing nature will be missed but never forgotten. Betty joins her husband, Rex Maxwell; daughter, Marsha; son in law, Charles Payne; parents, George and Bessie Meneely; siblings, Kathryn Gooch, Rex Meneely, Lenos Meneely, and Howard Meneely in eternal rest. Though their absence is keenly felt, her loving memory remains alive within the hearts of those who cherished her. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Betty's remarkable life on September 9, 2024. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM, all taking place at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 East 39th St S, Independence, MO 64055.
