Beverly Lee Pursley

Beverly Lee Pursley, 86 of Independence, MO passed away Friday, February 9, 2024 at Centerpoint Medical Center while in the care of Crossroads Hospice. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.   Cremation is planned with a memorial service at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 17, 2024 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel.  Beverly was born September 21, 1937 in Springfield, MO to Howard H. and Betty Jean (Wren) Roberts and and grew up in the Springfield area with her sister who she joined in Heaven, Phyllis Roberts and Virginia Conn before moving to Independence, MO.  She retired from AT&T, formerly Southwestern Bell, working in various administration roles.   Beverly was also a House Mom for the Carriage House in Independence, supervising young adults with disabilities.  She loved playing tennis and played as long as she could before challenging her 4 grandkids to a competitive game of tennis on the Wii, rarely letting a win escape her. She loved going to the casino with her best friend and was a very competitive Scrabble player.  Cooking and baking delicious treats and crafting were her favorite pastimes, especially for the holidays, everyone wanted a cheesecake from Beverly.  A perfectly set table was her specialty.  Beverly attended the First Christian Church of Independence and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.  Survivors include; her daughter, Michele Grotenhuis and son-in-law Ronald Grotenhuis of Independence, MO; 4 grandchildren, Jake Grotenhuis of Kansas City, MO, Emily Schmidt of Kansas City, MO, Riley Grotenhuis of Springfield, MO and Stuart Grotenhuis of Independence, MO; 2 sisters, Trudy Spector of Overland Park, KS and Joyce Starr of Columbus, OH; as well as several cousins nieces, nephews and many of other friends and extended family.
