Bev Riley, 88, of Independence, MO, peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 9-11am and Memorial service to follow at 11am at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave. Independence, MO. Graveside to take place after service in New Salem Cemetery. Bev was born on August 10, 1937, in Kansas City, MO, to Glenn and Teresea (Kidwell) Tryon. She graduated from East High School in 1955. She married the love of her life, Charles (Bob) Riley, on June 4, 1955. He preceded her in death in October 2009.
Bev was inducted into the Greater Kansas City Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame for Superior Performance in 1988, and the Missouri State Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1995. Her many bowling accomplishments include a 300 game in 1980, a 299 game in 1995, a 297 game in 1983, and twenty-nine games of 275 or more. She finished with a 200+ average in 8 different years and fifty-two 700+ series.
Her local titles include being a four-time City All Events Champion (1977, 1983, 1985, and 1988) and the City Team Champion in 1989. She was also the City Singles Champion in 1990; the City Doubles Champion with her daughter, Karen, in 2006; and the Greater Kansas City 600 Club Spring Tournament Champion in 1975. Additionally, she was a two-time U.S. Open Qualifying Champion in 1983 and 1987.
Her state titles include being a two-time Missouri State Amateur Champion in 1988 and 1990. She also won the Top 32 Tournament in Columbia, MO, in 1978. She was a seven-time Great Plains Bowling Association Champion across seven different cities. Bev participated in the WIBC Women’s National Championship Tournament for 25 years throughout the United States.
Outside of bowling, Bev and Bob were members of the Road Runners Square Dance Club for over 20 years. Bev was also a member of the Red Hat Society, and she loved to crochet and quilt. She was the biggest Elvis fan!
Bev is survived by her loving family: her son, Dan Riley, and his wife, Roxane; their children, Adam Riley and his wife, Amanda; great-granddaughters Chloee and Delaney; Laura Riley; Sean Riley and his wife, Alli Jordan; and great-grandson Ronan. She is also survived by her daughter, Karen (Riley) Spencer, and her husband, David; their children, Jason Spencer and his wife, Mendi; great-grandchildren Brooklyn and Bryson; Jill Perkins and her husband, Terry; great-grandchildren Mia and Talon; Bridget (Spencer) Schinstock and her husband, Ryan; great-grandchildren Riley Spencer, Abigail Schinstock, Emma Schinstock, and Makenzi Schinstock; and her sister-in-law, Imogene Tryon. She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Benjamin Riley, in August 1981; and her brother, Phillip Tryon, in April 2024.
