Beverly “Bev” Gene Salazar entered Heaven early on November 8, 2025. Bev was a shining example of God’s love, sharing kindness and joy with everyone she met. Her life overflowed with grace and laughter, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Born March 27, 1946, in San Diego, CA, to Delbert E. Hendrix and Margaret V. Blair, Bev graduated from Herbert Hoover High School. She was married to Steven Salazar for 5 years, and together they had two children, Stephanie Kay and Steven Keith.
Bev devoted 32 years to Pacific Bell (now AT&T), retiring as a Service Assistant Supervisor. In 1994, she moved to Kansas City, MO, with her dear friend and roommate of 47 years, Marty Church. They made a home in Blue Springs and found a loving church family at The Gathering Baptist Church in Independence.
Bev’s creativity and generosity touched many lives. She loved crafting, working with polymer clay, and crocheting hats for those in need. Her heart for service was evident in her involvement with Project Linus, the Young at Heart senior group, the church prayer ministry, and the Red Hat Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Steven, and her beloved friend Marty. Bev is survived by her daughter Stephanie (Graham McNicol), sisters Liz Hendrix and Robin (Dennis) Hunt.
Bev’s friendships were deep and genuine. One of her most cherished bonds was with Gary Fogler, whom she lovingly called her “adopted son.” Her faith assures us that Jesus welcomed her home that Saturday morning.
Honoring Bev’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Instead, we will celebrate her life with a birthday party next year—a joyful tribute to a woman who brought so much joy to others.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Gathering Baptist Church, 4505 S. Noland Road, Independence, MO 64055, or the American Cancer Society.
