William Hiram "Bill" Fields

William Hiram Fields, 89, died August 10, 2026, at his Independence, MO home. Bill was born October 29, 1936 to Marie and Hiram Fields in Freeman, MO. 

Bill met Donna Laursen at William Chrisman High School and wed August 2, 1958. The two were each other’s lifelong companions and friends.They were blessed with two boys: Mark and Kevin. Bill truly enjoyed his work as a small engine mechanic at Independence Rent All for over fifty years. In the 1960s, he proudly served in the United States Army Reserve and was honorably discharged. In addition to his military service, he served his community as a reserve police officer. In his free time, Bill and Donna enjoyed traveling together; highlights include Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and a special trip to Bermuda for their son’s wedding. Bill especially loved attending car shows and could talk about cars for hours if you gave him the chance. His passion for cars was matched by his love for tinkering, and he was always happy to work on a lawnmower. 

Bill is survived by his son, Kevin (Jill) Fields; his grandchildren, Wyatt (Katie) Fields, Ethan Fields, and Josie Fields; his sister-in-law Marian; nieces Patricia, Marsha, Jana, and Theresa; and many friends, family, and neighbors who will miss him dearly. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Hiram, his wife Donna, and son Mark. 

Visitation will be held from 9-10am on Friday, August 14, 2026 at  the Carson- Speaks Chapel in Independence, MO. Memorial service will begin at 10am with inurnment to follow at Green Lawn Cemetery.
