Samuel E. Bishop, 86, Independence, MO, passed on to his Heavenly Home April 26, 2012. Services will be 10 am, Tuesday, May 1, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055; interment with Full Military Honors at Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Monday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Sam was born Sept. 23, 1925 in Independence, MO and lived here most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II and a member of VFW Post #21. He worked at Armco Steel plant from 1946 until his retirement in 1986. He then drove a school bus for the Pace Bus Service in the Independence School District. He was a member of the Community of Christ New Hope Congregation. He served as Young Adult Leader, Assistant Stake Young Adult Leader, Zion’s League Leader and the Deacon Quorum President. He had served as a Boy Scout Master, Scout Leader and was a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.
Sam was preceded in death by his son Charles Gordon Bishop, his parents and five siblings. He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years Dorothy Bishop, of the home; son Samuel L. Bishop and wife Linda; grandchildren Samuel D. Bishop; Angela Fears and husband Brian, all of Independence, MO; Paul Bishop and wife Shawna, Blue Springs, MO; great-grandchildren Samantha & Tristen Bishop, Wyatt, Megan & Kaylen Fears, Brittain, Payton, Evan and Nathan Bishop; great-great-grandson Leighton Bishop and many other family members.
