James Elmer Boone, Jr., 94, of Kansas City, MO passed away Sunday, May 17, 2009 at the Armour Home. A visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM Wednesday, May 21 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence. Services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday at the chapel with burial at Mount Moriah Cemetery.
Elmer was born Oct. 14, 1914 in Kansas City, MO to James Boone, Sr. and Almira (Insley) Boone. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII and then returned to work for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier for more than 30 years before his retirement. Elmer and his wife, Virginia, enjoyed traveling abroad and within the states, taking random driving trips. He was a faithful member of Bales Baptist Church where he served as deacon, elder, trustee, and the director of the choir. Elmer loved dogs and desserts, and enjoyed the stock market, dark chocolate, and popcorn. He will be missed for his kind nature and ability to always have a good time by all who knew and loved him.
Elmer was preceded in death by his wife Virginia and is survived by his brother, Thomas Boone of Kansas City, MO; niece Eleanor Mullins and husband Bob of Denver, CO; great niece Barbara Todd and husband Bob of Kansas City, MO; great nephew Kenneth Hall of Independence, MO; and cousin Ellen Jane Petrie of Independence.
