Donald Royce Borland, 73, of Lee’s Summit, MO peacefully passed away Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Kansas City Hospice House surrounded by his family. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Lee’s Summit United Methodist Church, 114 SE Douglas St., Lee’s Summit, MO 64063. A visitation to celebrate Don’s life will be 6-8:00 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2009 at the church. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. in Mullin Cemetery, Urich, MO with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice House or to the church. Don was born December 5, 1935 in Independence, MO to Royce Kenyon and Alice Marie (Ferguson) Borland. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from December 1952 until April 1962 earning the rank of corporal. Don was united in marriage to Deana L. Doll on April 30, 1961, they later moved to Lee’s Summit in 1964. Mr. Borland worked for Missouri Gas Energy for 32 years before retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite, Ararat Shrine, American Legion, and Lee’s Summit United Methodist Church. Don is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Deana (Doll) Borland; daughter Lisa Van Dyke; grandson Jim Van Dyke and wife Erin; sisters-in-law Donna Powers, Dixie Vogt; brothers-in-law Daniel Doll and wife Judy, Delton Doll and wife Barbara; and by a multitude of nieces, and nephews whom he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his sister Loretta Murray; brother-in-law Patrick Murray; and niece Colette Murray.
