Evelyn R. Bottorff, 90, of Independence, MO, a retired teacher and administrator in the Kansas City, MO School District died August 3, 2009 at her home.
Mrs. Bottorff taught at Manchester and served as an Assistant Principal at Benjamin Franklin, Dunbar, Volker, Allen, and C.A. Franklin and was a principal at William R. Nelson and Milton Moore. She has been active in community and church for many years. As a member of the South Crysler Community of Christ Congregation she served as a Sunday school teacher and a pianist. She has been a member of the Independence Ellswood Meadows Garden Club, Independence Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, Independence Chapter 138 of AARP, both the Independence and Kansas City Units of Missouri Retired Teachers, IQ Chapter of P.E.O. Sisterhood, Encore Theatre, Knife and Fork Club, the Educational and Honor Societies of Kappa Delta Pi and Alpha Sigma Alpha, and worked as an Election Judge since retirement. Her degrees in Elementary Education and Administration were received from Central Missouri State University at Warrensburg, MO. Additional study was done at Utah State University in Salt Lake City, Utah and UMKC at Kansas City, MO. She traveled extensively, was an active gardener, a pet lover, and bird watcher.
Survivors include two daughters: Kay Cornwell and Brenda Pirtle; three grandchildren: Michael Cornwell, John Cornwell, and Steven Pirtle; four great-grandchildren Ashley Cornwell, David Cornwell, Chloe Pirtle, and Shaydon Cornwell; and one great-great-grandson Alexander Cornwell. Services will be held at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO on Saturday, Aug. 8 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be at the Chapel preceding the service from 10-11:00 AM on Saturday. Cremation. Inurnment will be at Mt. Washington Forever Cemetery, Independence, MO.
