Bob came into this world on Sept. 2, 1926, born to Genevieve McBride and James Roy Bowen near Detroit, MI. He married his love, AliceMary Swift, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Aurora, MO on Aug. 16, 1947. He was pleased to have sixty-four years with her. Bob said, “Thirty-two years of which I was waiting outside the bathroom door.” He served with the Greatest Generation in the U.S. Army during WW II and was discharged at the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He worked as a broadcast engineer for KCMO for forty-two years and was there to “throw the switch’ when KCMO-TV first came on the air. He was an active, founding member of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He was a past officer and President of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Chapter 13. He enjoyed planes, trains and automobiles – he loved to drive, which led to many driving vacations across the country with his family sometimes crammed into a station wagon with Bob declaring that they “will enjoy it.”
He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taking his family’s money during “penny poker” nights. Bob was a “duffer” and was an excellent putter – he called this “golfing” – among many other things he called it. He is greatly missed by his family and all who had the pleasure to have known him.
He is survived by his wife AliceMary Bowen; son Butch Bowen and wife Robin; daughters Bunni Magner and husband Rocky; Theresa Erickson and husband Rae; son Pat Bowen and wife Lisa; grandchildren Boe Bowen and wife Brenda; Shelly Clemons and husband Craig; Troy Magner and wife Kristen; Andrea Whitfield and husband Ruben; Justin Erickson and wife Nina; Aubryanne Wilson and husband Michael; Genevieve Burk and husband Shain; Spencer Erickson and wife Josina; Alexander Erickson; and eight great-grandchildren.
