Matthew W. Brashear, 56, of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2013. A visitation will be held from 1:00 -2:00 p.m. Monday, December 23rd followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at Carson Speaks Chapel, Independence, MO. Cremation will follow.
Matt was born June 5, 1957 in Kansas City, MO to RoseMarie (Lynch) and Harry W. “Bud” Brashear, Jr. as one of six children. Raised in Independence, he graduated William Chrisman High School. He married Glenna (Smith) on April 15, 1983 and together raised three children. Matt was a truck driver for many companies including: Medals USA, Fleming Babcock, and Reichs Produce. He was also a Battery Technician for Enersys and a Warehouse Supervisor for Hunt Midwest. Matt enjoyed playing cards especially spades and kings corner, watching and cheering on his Chiefs, taking long rides in his truck while listing to music, and doting over his grandchildren. He is remembered for his bold humor, the love he gave his family, and his faithfulness to his wife.
Matt is survived by daughter, Tandy Powell; son, Luke Aleshire (Shana) all of Independence, MO; son, Caleb Brashear (Amber) of Belton, MO; grandchildren, Uriah, Jordan, Kavan, and Eli; sister, Anne Titus; brother, Mark Brashear both of Independence, MO; brother Mike Brashear (Gina) of Lee’s Summit, MO; brother, Marty Brashear of Independence, MO; sister, Sarah Webb (Rick) of Cowgill, MO; parents-in-law, Ernest and Elsie Crews of Independence, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his mother, and beloved wife.
