Gary Brauninger, 66, of Independence, MO passed away March 27, 2009 at his home. A visitation will be held from 2:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m. followed by a 4:00 p.m. service on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Gary was born February 22, 1943 in Independence, MO to Frank and Jewel Brauninger. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1961. He went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from CMSU. Gary served as a military policeman for the U.S. Army in Okinawa during the years, 1965-1967. He was married to Tamara Kay (Teaney) Brauninger on August 27, 1967. In 1999, after 35 years of employment, Gary retired from the Independence Police Department. His hobbies included working on cars, woodworking, gardening and he was heavily involved in Rodeo Kids. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Tammy Brauninger; three daughters, LeAnn Pontalion and husband Tom, Jan Terrell and husband Brian; Laura Zimmer; seven grandchildren; and four siblings, Ed, Bob and Steve Brauninger, and Judy Crowl. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Kenny Brauninger.
