Rachel Ione Brewer, 79, of Independence, MO peacefully passed away Sunday, May 04, 2008 at Carmel Hills Living Center. Rachel, a beloved mother and gifted nurse, was born September 19, 1928 in Fisher, AR to Jesse Leroy and Ethel May (Sanders) Kirksey. She worked for thirty five years as a nurse at the Independence San and Hospital, and Resthaven (The Groves), serving the needs of many patients who loved her dearly for the care she gave. After retiring from nursing in 1990 she worked at the Restoration Bookstore for eight years. She is survived by one sister, Pamala Price and husband Richard; brothers Nathan Kirksey and wife Carolyn, Anthony Kirksey and wife Marsha; six children, Jackie Jewell and husband Jody, Donna Huckaby and husband Milton, Bud Walls and wife Cheryl, Sharon Rock and husband David, Larry Walls and wife Julie, Kirk Brewer and wife Allie, along with twenty grandchildren and forty-eight great-grandchildren. Mrs. Brewer was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, and daughter Paula. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1-2:00 p.m. Burial in Mound Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Village Hospice, 400 NW Murray Rd., Lee’s Summit, MO 64081.
