Kenneth Briggs

Kenneth C. Briggs, 81, Independence, MO., passed away May 23, 2009.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 31, 2009, Stone Church, 1012 W. Lexington Ave. Independence, MO 64050. Visitation will follow.
Kenneth was born September 16, 1927, in Bayfield, CO, to Leon and Alta Briggs. The youngest of five children, his father died when Kenneth was six months old. His mother raised her children on a ranch near Bayfield. When Kenneth was 12 years old, they moved to Southern California. He graduated from Pasadena City College, attended Graceland University, Lamoni, Iowa, and received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern California in 1959. He did additional studies in law.
He is an Army veteran of the Korean War. After eight years in the banking field, he spent 11 years in a variety of corporate management roles in several companies. Following this he developed his own business, retiring from active management in 1997. While living in Temple City, CA, he served on the Planning Commission, City Council and was mayor for two terms. He also served on the Los Angeles County Juvenile Delinquency Commission and several county boards. Kenneth was a lifetime member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held the office of High Priest. He served as Presiding Elder of the Covina Congregation and the Pomona Congregation in California in the 1960’s and served in the Orange-San Gabriel Stake presidency in the 1970’s.
Kenneth is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Bonny; daughter LeeAnna Marshall of Independence, MO; son Douglas Briggs and wife Leigh Briggs of Kansas City, MO; son Robert Briggs and wife Kimberly Briggs of Independence, MO; seven grandchildren Mariah Marshall, Taylor Briggs, Kristen Briggs, Mitchell Briggs, Kenyon Briggs, Corey Briggs, and Samantha Briggs; and his brother, Clinton Briggs and wife Ethel of Pasadena, California.
