Phyllis June Brock, 79, of Independence, MO passed away June 9, 2008 at Centerpoint Medical Center. A visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM, Friday, June 13 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Memorial Services will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday at the Waldo Restoration Branch.
June was born April 16, 1929 in Petrolia, KS to Cyrus Hugh and Sylvia Lee (Patton) Starns. She grew up in the community of Matfield Green, KS where she graduated from high school. She was active in the 4-H Club for eight years where she earned many ribbons for her sewing skills. After high school, June went to Kansas City Secretarial School and then married Hugh “Bob” Brock at the age of 19. Together they raised five children. June’s family was her life. Her children and grandchildren meant the world to her. Through the years, June was active within the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she taught every Sunday School class up to Jr. High age, acted as Women’s Leader for five years, taught both the Orioles and Skylarks, and was Bible School Principal for five years. June will be missed by all who knew and loved her. June was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh, in 2003 and a brother, Jack Starns. She is survived by five children and their spouses: Patricia and Frank Frye, Howard and Patty Brock, Debra and Dan McCarty, Barbara and Hal Davis, and Douglas and Courtney Brock; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Gaylen Starns and wife LaVeta; sister, Irene Pierce and husband Max; sister-in-law, Anna Starns; and a host of extended family and friend
