Mildred A. Brophy, 92, of Independence, MO, formerly of Des Moines, IA passed away Friday, March 9, 2007 at Independence Regional Health Center. Cremation with interment in Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, IA. Private Graveside Services are pending. Contributions may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Des Moines, IA. Mildred was born November 29, 1914 in Rising Sun, IA to Wm Francis and Rebecca (Allison) Roach, and the granddaughter of Frank and Julia (Kalahar) Roach and Henry and Margaret (Lowther) Allison. She was a graduate of Granger High School in Granger, IA in 1933 and began her career at Mercy Hospital the same year. On January 14, 1942, she married Daniel Brophy at Visitation Catholic Church in Des Moines and they shared over 40 years of marriage. She was foremost a mother, homemaker and active in her children�s, grandchildren�s and great-grandchildren�s education as well as church activities. Her husband and brothers Miles, Edward and William, sisters Betty, Berenice, Vera and Catherine preceded her in death. Mrs. Brophy leaves behind daughters Maureen Seskis (Marty) of Independence, MO, Kathleen Landgrebe (Dennis) of Newton, IA, and son Patrick Brophy of Mendota Heights, MN and his companion Judy Schrantz. Five grandchildren, Matthew (Lilliana), Mark and Michael Seskis of Independence, MO, Kellie Nelson of Ocheyedan, IA, Chad Hurst (Yvonne) of Fresno, CA and step-grandchild Amanda (Jeff) Fifer of Reasnor, IA. Nine great-grandchildren, Brian and Brett Seskis of Independence, MO, Jessica and Joni Nelson of Ocheyedan, IA, Josh, Chance and Emily Hurst of Fresno, CA and Morgan and Lane Fifer of Reasnor, IA. A sister, Margaret (B.K.) Thompson of San Francisco, CA and a brother James Roach of Fort Wayne, IN and many nieces and nephews throughout the United States.
